Good Foundations
September 2009 saw the launch of the Golden Foundation, a new £1 million grant fund scheme set up by Irwell Valley in conjunction with the Community Foundation for Greater Manchester.
As part of our commitment to creating fantastic neighbourhoods, we have created the Golden Foundation. The first and biggest of its kind, the Golden Foundation aims to support people in finding local solutions to local problems and encouraging positive change within their neighbourhoods.
Through the Golden Foundation, every Irwell Valley residents, as well as groups not formally recognised by the association are eligible for grants up to£1000. Up to £5000 in funding is also available to resident or constituted community groups on application.
Who Decides?
All funding decisions are made by members of the Golden Foundation Panel, the majority of whom are Irwell Valley residents. For an application to be successful, it must meet at least one of the following criteria.
- Dreams and aspirations – does the project help people develop new skills and improve life opportunities? For example, does the scheme provide young people such access to further education or training?
- Well being – does it promote healthy living and well being?
- Respect and understanding – will the project encourage people of all ages and races to interact?
- Community togetherness – does the project encourage community spirit and a sense of belonging?
